Creativity/Songwriting Workshop
Over the last thirty years of ministry, it has become growing passion of mine to see the local church realize its potential in creating music that comes from, and addresses its people directly. Too long, the American church has adopted and accepted the attitude that the music department of the local church exists to copy the music and styles written by a select group of churches and artists around the world. ( Heaven forbid that we should be creative and write our own songs )!
We expect our pastors to labor tirelessly to create original messages––each and every week––that are tailored to his/her congregation but are satisfied and even delighted when our music sounds like a copy of some famous church or CD. We are not only losing our creative gift, but also accepting the loss without concern.
After years of song writing in Nashville, I have studied the unwritten rules of the collaborative process of how songs are created. These simple rules, if followed, can allow every church to create music that is a unique expression of their corporate individuality. This is not to imply that the Church toss out its rich heritage of wonderful sacred music but rather contribute to it.
This year, I put together a two-day workshop that will help churches not only learn the outline of this simple process but also practice it in a non-threatening, learning atmosphere. Email me at JohnStarnesOffice@mac.com if you think the time is right for your church to unlock the creativity that God has placed inside of all of us.
